What the Shape of Your Nose Says About You

How do I choose the shape of nose that is right for me?

No one would argue that there are some noses that are simply more attractive than others. But why is that? In today’s world, what is or is not attractive is often the byproduct of the multi-billion-dollar beauty industry. We are constantly bombarded by television, billboard, print and online images and messages designed to influence our opinions. The purpose has little to do with actual beauty and far more about manipulating our spending. This particular type of influence has not taken hold with rhinoplasty. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t artificial standards when it comes to cosmetic surgery, including nose jobs. Polls indicate that Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, has the nose that tops the most desired list for women, while it’s Jude Law, followed by Josh Duhamel and Ben Affleck for men.So, how we want to look can have a lot to do with who we want to look like. Unfortunately, no matter how often Kate Middleton’s nose has been described as “perfect”, transferring it to someone else’s face will not create a look-alike. The young future queen is blessed with a nose that is proportionate and fits her face. That should be the primary goal when making aesthetic changes through rhinoplasty.Nose shape should be unique. It should fit the size, shape, contours and ethnicity of the individual face. Rhinoplasty has life-changing potential, but it should only be considered following thorough research and a lot of thought. Just because something can be done, does not mean that it should. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon will be the first to counsel a conservative, individual approach. There are those, however, who believe that the very changing of the shape of your nose will affect your destiny. Not because it will make you more attractive, but because of the 3,000-year-old practice of facial reading.  According to Jean Haner, an expert face reader and author of The Wisdom of Your Face, “Every feature on your face tells you something about yourself and who you’re intended to be.” This seems to be age specific in that the forehead reveals things about our 20s, eyes the 30s, mouth the 50s, chin the 60s, jaw the 70s and the sides of the face tell us about the 80s and 90s. Haner says, “Your nose, however, speaks to your 40s, specifically. The top area between your eyes speaks to the year you turn 40, the top third refers to your early 40s, the middle correlates to your mid 40s and the bottom half reflects to your later 40s.”Facial readers can make predictions based on the shape of the nose. For example, a bony nose that is larger than other features on the face, predicts that when the person reaches age 40, it will be a time of perfectionism and power, either in having a great deal of power or being faced with a very powerful challenge. A nose that hooks down at the end relates to the end of your 40s. Haner says, “If your nose turns downs, it means in the end of your 40s, you’re meant to slow down, but if you push yourself and don’t relax, you might end up feeling like the rug has been pulled out from under you.“Believe it or not, there are similar meanings ascribed to all of the nose shapes and irregularities. Now you know that by changing the shape of your nose, you run the risk of changing your destiny. So, choose wisely! All joking aside, whether you believe in facial reading or not, the decision to change the shape of your nose should never be taken lightly.
