Rhinoplasty for Men Increasing in Popularity

Why are more men deciding to have nose jobs?

Gender equality works both ways. While decades ago, nose jobs and other cosmetic procedures were considered “women’s work,” in recent years more and more men are turning to rhinoplasty to enhance their looks and to increase their self-confidence. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures for men has increased by more than 106 percent between 1997 and 2012. Rhinoplasty for men is no longer unusual.

Reasons Men Give for Desiring Rhinoplasty

Most people would agree that our culture places a great deal of emphasis on looking and feeling youthful. With people living longer, the focus is on maintaining an active lifestyle and a vibrant, attractive appearance for as long as possible. While genetics and life experience (including injuries and illnesses) are beyond our control, most of us try to do what we can to look and feel as young as possible. This is as true for men as it is for women.Men, like women, seek cosmetic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty, to improve their looks in an attempt to be more viable socially (both social media and in person) and to experience increased self-esteem. More than women, however, men report looking to improve their appearance in order to give themselves a competitive edge in the job market. Perhaps a larger proportion of men than women evaluate themselves in terms of their employment status.

Freedom of Choice

No longer restricted by the old misconception that cosmetic surgery is not “manly,” and is reserved for the actors and models of their gender, men now feel free to seek aesthetic improvement. Men who feel that their nose is somehow inappropriate or embarrassing, a distraction from their otherwise good looks, are now able to have it “fixed” so that they can feel more comfortable in their own skin. Whether their nose has always bothered them, has enlarged as they aged, or has been damaged by injury, a talented rhinoplasty surgeon can remold it into a nose they can be proud of.

How Men Choose Rhinoplasty Surgeons

Not only is rhinoplasty the number one plastic surgery procedure among men, but the rate of male satisfaction with the results if very high as well. Obviously, however, everything depends on the qualifications of the surgeon. It is always wise to have nasal cosmetic surgery performed by a doctor who specializes in rhinoplasty alone and is an expert in the field. Cosmetic surgery, after all, is not just a medical operation, but an artistic undertaking. Patients, male or female, want to ensure that they will come out of a rhinoplasty looking not only beautiful in their own special way, but entirely natural.
